How to save £3k
Only spend where it matters
Spend money where guests notice. Save money where they don’t.
1. Ditch The Favours
I've been involved in hundreds of weddings, and do you know what guests rarely talk about afterwards? Favours. Most left behind, forgotten or eaten on the journey home. Spend the money on food, drinks and entertainment instead your Saving potential £100 - £1000
2. Cut The Guests List By 10 People
10 guests doesn't just mean 10 meals. It means 10 chairs, 10 drinks packages, 10 evening meals, 10 place settings and 10 favours (if you're having them). Be brave only invite people you can't imagine celebrating without.
Saving you a holy moly £1000 - £2500
3. Choose One Incredible Cake
Nobody knows whether your cake has three edible tears or one. Focus on creating a beautiful centrepiece and remember, most guests only eat a small slice. A clever Baker can create a stunning display of a 3-tier wedding cake (2 tears of which are fake or one large flat cake.
Saving you an eye watering price tag of £300 - £1000
4. Skip The Traditional Wedding Cars
Guest remember who's arriving, not what they're arriving in. Some of the most memorable entrances I've seen have involved family cars, being all dressed up with ribbons and flowers. Save your budget for the bits you’ll enjoy all day long. Don't forget when the bride arrives for the ceremony everybody is already waiting by the aisle, so whatever you arrive in is likely not to be seen by your guests.
Potential saving £300 - £1500 pounds
5. Use Seasonal Flowers
Your florist knows which flowers are in season, your guests don't! Seasonal blooms are often fresher, more plentiful and significantly cheaper than importing flowers from halfway across the world.
Potential saving of £500 to £2000
6. Don’t Double Up Entertainment
Choose one thing and do it brilliantly! A fantastic band, a brilliant DJ, a saxophonist, a singer. Most guests won't notice if you've booked three different acts, but they'll definitely notice if one of them is amazing.
Savings from £500 - £3000
7. Stop Buying Things For The Morning
Matching dressing gowns, slippers, tote bags, champagne glasses, water bottles and personalised everything can quickly add up. Lovely? yes. Essential? not really. Put the money towards something you'll still remember after lunchtime
Potential saving £200 - £1000
8. Have The Ceremony And Reception In The Same Place
Keeping everything under one roof can save on transport, additional flowers, venue fees, and extra supplier hours. It also means you'll get spend less time travelling and more time celebrating.
Potential saving £500 - £2500
9. Don’t Get Married On A Saturday
Friday and Sunday weddings can be significantly cheaper than Saturdays. The surprising bit? Guests still get dressed up still celebrate and still have a fantastic time the only thing that's really different, is the invoice!
Savings of £1000 to £5000
10. Don’t Invite People Out Of Guilt
This is the hardest one. Every wedding has a handful of guests invited because somebody feels they should be. Ask yourself, “Would I take this person out for dinner next month and hand them £100?” If the answer is no, they probably don't need a seat at your wedding.
Potential saving £500 - £3000
